ADSL Prerequisites

Before a customer can have ADSL installed, they must meet the following requirements:

  • Customer must have an active (working) Frontier landline

  • Customer must have an available electrical outlet for the ADSL modem

  • Customer's computer must meet the following requirements:
    • PC Requirements:
      • Your computer must have an ethernet port to connect to the router or modem, or it must have a wifi adapter that can connect through a wireless router
      • Windows XP/Vista/7/8 or Windows Server 2003/2008/2012
      • Please note that Windows versions earlier than XP and Windows Server versions earlier than 2003 are no longer supported by Microsoft and do not receive security updates
      • Please also note that as of April 2014 Windows XP will also no longer be supported by Microsoft and will not receive security updates
      • In general, your computer hardware must be powerful enough to run the applications (web browser/e-mail client/etc.) you want to use to access the Internet
    • Mac Requirements:
      • Your computer must have an ethernet port to connect to the router or modem, or it must have a wifi adapter that can connect through a wireless router
      • OS X
      • Please ensure that the version of OS X you are running is still receiving security updates from Apple
      • In general, your computer hardware must be powerful enough to run the applications (web browser/e-mail client/etc.) you want to use to access the Internet
    • UNIX/Linux/*BSD/Other :
      • Your computer must have an ethernet port to connect to the router or modem, or it must have a wifi adapter that can connect through a wireless router
      • Please ensure that the version of the operating system you are running is still receiving security updates
      • In general, your computer hardware must be powerful enough to run the applications (web browser/e-mail client/etc.) you want to use to access the Internet

  • Customer is responsible for the configuration and maintenance of their software and hardware. Our technical support staff will help in any way they can but in the end it is the customer's responsibility to ensure that thier software is configured correctly and their hardware is functioning properly.
